We have more great health policy news to share! Cigna, the 4th largest commercial payer with over 16 million covered lives nationally, has updated their TMS coverage criteria, effective immediately. There are several changes that will help make TMS treatment accessible to more patients, including the following:
● Patient criteria now includes adults ages 18 and older*
● The number of antidepressant medication trials has been reduced from 4 to 2 or for individuals unable to complete 1 medication trial due to intolerance of antidepressant medication
Aetna
We have some great health policy news to share! Aetna, one of the largest payers with approximately 22 million covered lives across the United States, has updated their TMS coverage criteria, effective immediately. There are several changes that will help make TMS treatment accessible to more patients, including the following:
● Patient criteria now includes adults ages 18 and older (previously ages 21 and older)*
● The number of antidepressant medication trials has been reduced from 4 to 2
● One TMS re-mapping during a course of depression treatment is now considered medically necessary
● TMS re-treatment is now considered medically necessary for people who previously had at least a 50% reduction in depressive symptoms
